USC QLD SET FOR POINTS SHAKEUP TONIGHT

November 5, 2016

After two nail-biting rounds of Queensland’s Ultimate Sprintcar Championship at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, the series points have been shared sparingly, setting the stage for an intense points shakeup for tonight’s round 3 battle featuring the Will Power 500.

The Top ten have shared the spoils in both rounds to make a trifling 50 point difference between series leader Luke Oldfield and tenth spot holder Dave Whell, however, the points tally will receive a shake up after the third round, with three drivers unable to make the Will Power 500 starting line up.

Hi-Tec Oils Speedway Events manager, Bennie Bishop was eagerly anticipating the next round, predicting an increase in intensity across the field as the new “drop-a-round” rule comes into effect.

“This is the first round where we will see the points get shuffled, as some of the drivers take advantage of the new ruling allowing you to drop your lowest scoring round in the championship. We are running eight rounds of the USC QLD this season, but will only count each driver’s best seven rounds, so Mitchell Gee and Robbie Farr will race at Sydney tonight, giving an opportunity for other racers to step up into the Top Ten.”

“I’m really pleased that this rule has been brought in, because there’s been a lot of racers who can’t make a certain round for legitimate reasons but now they can still stay in the championship hunt, plus it keeps guys like Bryan Mann in the series who couldn’t make the first round, and Darren Kane, who had that massive rollover that ended his night in the last round. It’s a win-win for drivers and fans as it will really tighten the championship right up, and we won’t really know who will be the champion, right up until the end of the season Grand Final on Good Friday, April 14.”

The USC QLD Championship extended its payout to fifth placing overall this season, with the top five to be awarded $5000, $3,500, $2,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively after the final tally on April 14.
