TOOWOOMBA DOUBLES SEDAN APPEARANCES IN NEW SEASON!

After successfully completing it’s fledgling year under new management, Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway is set for a massive season with a greater emphasis on sedan racing than the previous calendar.

Events manager, Ben Bishop was excited to be hosting every QSCA division at the track over the 11 event calendar, almost doubling the sedan appearances from seven shows last year to thirteen for the coming season.

“Last year, we took over the speedway lease in June, with the sedan calendar pretty much already locked in and without too many vacancies for us to claim some dates, but thankfully this year we were quicker out of the blocks and were able to secure 13 appearances which will be fantastic for a city that has very much loved their sedans over the speedway’s 40 year history.”

Super Sedans will make three marks on the calendar, with their return to the Ultimate Pink Night on November 5, the Super Sedan Summer Slam on New Years Eve and the Queensland Title on January 14, while Modified Sedans will make four appearances.

“We have so many big names in Super Sedans up here and anyone who witnessed the three wide, fifteen lap battle for the lead at Pink Night in April will attest to how well they run on the “Hi-Tec Hi-Banks,” so we cant wait to get them back, while the Modified Sedans are an obvious choice for us because there’s more than 12 local racers in that division, battling it out in the IBRP Golden Helmet Series for three of the shows which is a wonderful privilege for us to be a part of.”

Street Stocks and Junior Sedans will have two shows in the season, while National 4’s and Production Sedans will make a solitary appearance, the latter having to reduce their two shows after scheduling conflicts with the Queensland Sprintcar Title.

“We did some draft schedules up of some of the events for the season, and realising that the Queensland Sprintcar Title runs three rounds of heats as opposed to their normal two, we had to take the Proddies off the schedule to keep the night from finishing after 11pm. Finishing late may be okay for some tracks, but we have a very clear mandate to attract the non-speedway public, and that means producing, shorter, sharper shows that finish earlier than the traditional late night speedway events, so a tough call had to be made. But we will make it up to the Production racers next season I’m sure!”

Outside of sedan racing, the Charlton based venue will also host 8 rounds of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship, two rounds of the 30th Anniversary World Series Sprintcars as well as Queensland Titles for Late Models, Wingless Sprints Mod Lites and Legend Cars.

A freshened website for the venue will be released next week.
