Fresh from his win at the Clipsal 500 in the V8 Supercars development series, Shepparton's Garry Jacobson is set to get sideways on the dirt this Easter in a 900 horsepower Ultimate Sprintcar.
Jacobson was elated with his breakthrough win on the circuit in the Challenger Valve Racing FG Falcon, but can’t wait to get back this Friday and Sunday night to the high banks of one of Australia’s most impressive speedway venues to mix it with the best in the nation.
“I can’t wait to get back up there. I’m just excited to be on dirt and doing what my dad used to do so well. He’s my hero and he’s won three Australian Modified Production speedway titles and 16 state titles around Australia so it was a great childhood.”
Racing was clearly in the blood of the country-Victorian, and he’d always imagined following in his father’s dirt-track footsteps, however opportunities came from other avenues.
"My dream was to always get into speedway but we couldn’t ignore the opportunities that we were given in circuit racing, but with speedway, I love how you can see the crowd and hear the fans at the end of the race. it’s like nothing else in motorsport and I can tell you that racers throughout the V8 world absolutely love and respect Sprintcars.”
Garry’s pre-racing preparation has included a day session at Robbie Farr’s Ultimate Driving School while also taking coaching from Withcott’s own Peter Lack through the GW racing outfit. “Robbie is a two time Australian champion in Sprintcars and once in Speedcars, and Lacky is a three-time Modified production national champion, so I’ve had some fantastic coaches, who really know this venue really well also, so we’re rearing to go!”
